[ how very dare, percy. obama washington akemi is the cutest thing on this base. ]
It's a squig. I found it on the wreck.
[ the squig curls back in and huddles against homura's chest, pressing as closely in as it can. ] A survivor. [ after a moment, homura produces a letter from her pocket, and holds it out for percy to read. ]
A squig.[He recognizes the animal's movements and so he doesn't press to get closer, but he does take the letter. It might not be too obvious to Homura but he does take a little longer to read it, eyes squinting and occasionally allowing his brows to furrow in concentration. By the time he gets through the letter though he pauses. His gaze goes to the paper first and then back to the squig in question.]
Quick question, did you read the letter before you brought the squig back to the base? [He's still giving the creature a look that's a cross between curious and mildly perturbed, but still no sudden moves.]
[ homura read it at least three times before depositing it into her shield, actually. ] I went looking for the weapon. The labs were empty, aside from the Kharaa nest it had been converted into.
[ because apparently this trip has to sound as dangerous as possible. ] It is missing.
she looks from obama the squig to percy jackson to obama the squig to percy. this isn't good, this isn't good at all and the more she thinks about it, the more he's right. the scars, it's presence on a military base. it's stupid, but it clears something up for her.
[OKAY THEN. He even takes a step back to hold his hands up to show he has zero intentions of touching Obama, even as he keeps his focus on him anyway.]
I'm not going to touch him. Promise. He's going to be fine. [...that part he can't promise, but his mind's already racing ahead with a course of action instead of really thinking this through.] You found nothing else? Just him and the letter?
[ homura doesn't relax. in fact, the promise of "he's going to be fine" makes her expression tighten, as if homura's got a bone to pick with those words alone. she doesn't rise, though, only keeps the squig there, pressed to her chest. it's fine with this arrangement, apparently. ]
...Yes. I looked, but nothing else. If there was a weapon in the lab - [ because she's not disagreeing but she's hoping that, look, obama isn't a dangerous thing ] - it is possible the Kharaa have it, now. Dave says that the Kharaa he knows haven't mentioned a weapon. [ which narrows it down CLEARLY THIS IS A THING SHE CAN FIND, AND NOT THE CREATURE IN HER LAP, HA HA HA ]
[He keeps his distance because he's not an idiot. Something's up, he doesn't know what, but he knows better than to approach Homura with force. That doesn't seem fair to her or Obama. Still, he shakes his head almost sadly.]
What good would it do for the Kharaa to take a weapon that's supposed to be used against them? We don't even know how this weapon works. Why would they? [Another glance at the squig.] Unless you think the Kharraa would lie to Dave?
[That's also possible, don't get him wrong, but he's pretty sure that's not the case. He doesn't like it.]
To keep it out of the hands of those who would use it against them. They said if the Kharaa got their hands on it, that we would be in danger.
[ it's said bluntly, but she doesn't mean anything by her correction other than to point something out. ] I wouldn't put it past them to lie to him. If it came to that, he could become a liability.
[He gives her a less than impressed look and when he responds it's just as bluntly.]
You think Dave would let himself become a liability? [...] Better question, you think other people would let Dave become a liability? [Sorry Dave.] Homura. Take it from someone who's had a whole list of people that've wanted to kill me in the last couple of years. If they had the weapon, we would at least have a hint by now.

I don't think it's missing, actually...[He gestures to Obama. Homura, think about that for a minute.]
